About the Author
Professor Donald Carper began his career as an analyst for the State of California Coordinating Council for higher education researching critical issues in higher education for the California legislature. He served six years as Dean of Students and Lecturer in law at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of law. For the last twenty-five years he has taught in Colleges of Business at the University of the Pacific and California State University and the School of Agricultural Economics at the University of California, Davis. He practiced law and was the managing attorney for a medium size business and health law firm. While at McGeorge he helped establish the Institute for Administrative Justice which established a national reputation for training administrative hearing officers. His interest in administrative hearings as alternatives to judicial resolution led to an early interest in alternative dispute resolution. He acts as an arbitrator and mediator working to resolve public and private disputes. He is an Associate with the California Center for Public Dispute Resolution and serves on the Northern California Advisory Committee for the American Arbitration Association. He has been active in International programs. In recent years Professor Carper worked to establish two mediation centers in the Kaluga, Oblast in Russia. In addition he has worked on ADR programs and training of judges and lawyers in West Africa. His work in both Africa and Russia continues. In addition he has created and participated in training programs for lawyers and judges from Russia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Korea, and China at the California State University, Sacramento campus. Professor Carper received his undergraduate degree from California State University, Chico in Personnel and Industrial Relations, his Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and his Juris Doctor from the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific.

Dr. John A. McKinsey is a practicing attorney in Sacramento where he also teaches Business Law at California State University in Sacramento. His law practice focuses on project development, environmental law and business transactions associated with energy and regulation. His research focuses on Administrative Law and the Regulation of Business.

Fantastic Book for Business Owners

SCRUM is an excellent book. It helped me re-think the way we approach project/task management in my company. We have not implemented all of the SCRUM methodology because some aspects require more effort than benefit. Nevertheless, we have implemented much of the methodology, mainly focusing on those aspects that help the whole team understand what is happening and what needs to be done. We have focused on team meetings daily with bookending meetings at the start of the week and the end. We have also focused on laying out projects in detail and then monitoring how fast we get things done. We haven't implemented any method for estimating the intensity, or size, of each task, as that seemed to be an additional burden that wouldn't provide any near-term​ benefit.

I'm a personal development and business book consuming freak. This book is my current favorite. The amount of experiences that Jeff Sutherland has packed into his life and in turn, this book, is amazing. I purchased it to learn more about SCRUM. Know that it is not a how-to book on SCRUM. It is the "why" and stories that formed SCRUM.

The result is that I have sense taken the time to add SCRUM to operations of my business. IT department is using and loving it.

I have never been this excited about applying what I've learned in a book. Both I, and my employees, are happy I found this book.

You won't find a better indroduction to spirits

- Great looking book and great photography

- Detailed intro into all the main spirits

- Detailed info on bartending techniques and measurements

- Good intro into cocktail glasses

- Large number of recipes

- The author definately has command of the subject

- Lots of references of wher to buy items for your bar

Cons

- Inconsistant terminology. He uses different names for the same spirit in different pages of the book which leads to a bit of confusion

- No cross reference of recipes by main spirit. I wish the book would have broken down the recipes by main spirit. Recipes with vodka, recipes with tequila, and so on.

- Some spirits are undefined in the book. There are several recipes that have spirits that aren't defined anywhere on the book.

Great content poorly organized

Try to imagine your favorite cookbook with the recipes arranged in alphabetical order. Bad. Now imagine all of the recipes had fanciful titles not directly related to their ingredients or method of production and THEN they were arranged in alphabetical order. Worse. Now imagine the book had a halfhearted attempt at any index. (Yes, there are a few alternate drink names in the index, but no attempt to, for instance, list drinks by base spirit, let alone minor ingredients.) Well that is DeGroff's Craft of The Cocktail. If you buy it, you pretty much have to read it cover to cover for it to be of use. If you just use it as a reference you will find excellent recipes of familiar drinks but miss all of the original drinks. (You don't know their names. They are originals. How are you going to be led to them in an alphabetical book?) I don't disagree with any of the positive things that people said about this book. (I did tell you to imagine your FAVORITE cookbook destroyed by disorganization.) But this book is a real disappointment and a missed opportunity.

Great book - small critique

I agree with everyone else's praise for this book. It's definitely my "desert island" cocktail book. There are many bad cocktail books out there, there are a few good cocktail books, but this is the only "great" cocktail book.
My only gripe is the index is not thorough enough to look up drinks by ingredient. For instance, you can't look up Benedictine and find all drink recipes containing that ingredient.

Psychic Intuition-Everything You Ever Wanted To Ask But Were
Afraid To Know by Nancy Du Tertre explains how animals and humans
perceive and act upon information on a broad scale which encompasses
the experiential domain, logic, intuitive judgments and even non-human
senses.

Nancy Du Tertre explains that Intuition operates on a broad sliding scale
controlled by the ratio of rational to irrational and conscious to subconscious thoughts. The main difference between a smart guess and psychic intuition is the amount of data at your conscious disposal. Psychic ability is therefore a different flavor of intuition. Psychic ability is just a natural extension of our ability to make an educated guess. Intuition uses creative past experience, rational thinking and judgment calls. Sometimes, intuition involves a hunch or gut call.

Du Tertre refers to various types of non-human senses. For instance, echolocation is the ability to sense the environment via echoed or reflected sounds. Bats, whales and dolphins have the ability to create a mental map of their environment via echolocation.

Animals; such as, migratory birds, salamanders, hamsters,
dolphins and honeybees have been found to be able to sense
the earth's geomagnetic field in order to orient themselves
and make survival decisions. Du Tertre mentions other senses
which have yet to be explored like thermoception, and
proprioception or the sense of a body's location or space.
Sharks, eels, fish and rays possess electroception or the
ability to sense electrical field patterns and even auras
surrounding the body.

Du Tertre documents how Edgar Cayce, the noted psychic and holistic healer was said to have the ability to sleep on his books and retain the knowledge contained in them. The Croatian born inventor Nikola Tesla was known to memorize many complete books effortlessly.

Professor Allen Synder, a neuroscientist could simply shut down
the left hemisphere of the brain using transcranial magnetic stimulation.
His studies showed that the subjects could vastly increase their artistic
ability and mathematical skills. This feat could be done within a quarter
of an hour after receiving the magnetic stimulation of the brain creating
instant savants out of seemingly otherwise normal people. By inhibiting
the left brain, the right side of the brain would flourish.

Kim Peek was a superstar savant who committed 12,000 books to personal
memory according to the author.While reading a book, his left eye read
the left side of the page and the right eye read the right side
of the page according to Du Tertre.

Psychic Intuition by Nancy Du Tertre is a bold thrust into the unknown

Approaching the subject of psychic intuition from a unique frame of reference, renowned author/ psychic detective/ healer Nancy du Tertre, indoctrinates readers to the distinctive theories in her book, Psychic Intuition: Everything You Ever Wanted To Ask But Were Afraid To know. This is a comprehensive work, which broaches the subject from a completely intelligible standpoint based on evidence from her own personal experiences and meticulous research. Through this book, she shares her intimate journey from skeptic to psychic.

Author du Tertre is not a metaphysical guru expecting people to blindly follow her advice nor is she a specially selected human given the gift of psychic intuition. Instead she is a regular human being that discovered through training, it is possible to activate what she believes is the inherent capacity of all humans, the ability of psychic intuition. This book is an edifying work that truly goes well beyond the regularly discussed parameters of psychic intuition.

This is a well organized documentation of the author’s experiences, the chapters are presented as lessons, each brimming with pertinent information and observations specifically geared towards the differing aspects of intuition while comparing both the psychic and physical facets. Also included at the end of each lesson are simple exercises that do help to expand your awareness. This book proposes some mind-boggling theories supported by both physical proof and scientific evidence including documented observations from various medical and psychological studies, and conclusive evidence drawn from her meetings with well-known psychics, psychologists and scientists.

By sharing her vast knowledge and experiences, du Tertre stimulates a new curiosity to an age old postulation about psychic ability. What I found to be especially interesting about this book is the fact that she trained herself to become psychically intuitive (a theory that I fully subscribe to) and the conclusion that humans have more than forty possible senses. Another premise that stands out is the revelation that the mind perceives much more of the world around us than we realize and we have to retrain our minds to recognize more of the information we are receiving, which leads to using our inherent ability to be psychically intuitive.

I was thoroughly captivated by this book; it was an engrossing read that I enjoyed which works as a superlative tutorial, taking readers on an illuminative journey into the enigmatic realm of psychic intuition by exploring from the viewpoints of science, psychology, and logic. I highly recommend this as a “need to read” book for skeptics and believers alike as it will definitively change your perceptions about psychic intuition.

Terrific

Psychic Intuition by Nancy Du Tertre is a fascinating book for anyone with an open mind to read. The author grew up in a family of medical scientists and is a trained lawyer and as far as psychic intuition goes, she was a born SKEPTIC! In her world everything had to be proven by replicatable facts and tangible objects and experiences, but when she began to question and delve into psychic ability which some people seemed to have from birth she began to wonder if any of the claims could be proved, experienced by skeptics, and learned. She spent years studying psychic occurances and learning how to become a psychic intuitive herself. Now she is showing the reader how she did it and how you can too! And she has many convincing stories, incidents, facts that will convince most anyone who is interested in the subject! I really love this book because I truly believe, too, that there is far more to us and our universe than our five senses that we depend on can detect. Yes, we CAN train our unused senses to be realized and extremely useful and reliable.

Fourthly, the book introduces the lectures, classes and workshops that the two authors teach on these subjects. Mathematics has an interesting history in Africa. This history forms the first part of the book. The earliest known mathematical artefact in human history is the Lebombo Bone. Thought to be 37,000 years old, it was discovered by archaeologists in South Africa. Scholars believe that the number system carved into the bone represents a lunar calendar. Later mathematical evidence comes from the Ishango region of Central Africa, Ancient Egypt, Medieval North Africa, Ethiopia, Medieval West Africa and Medieval Central Africa. Mathematics teachers have asked for material that can be used in the classroom where these African mathematical ideas can be used, tested or even challenged. To this aim, the second part of the book presents classroom material that can engage children. Each lesson demonstrates a mathematical principle followed by classroom exercises that the pupils can attempt. We have provided perhaps 22 hours worth of teaching and learning material. The third part of this book was written wholly by John Matthews, a secondary school mathematics teacher. It contains a sample of his tips and short cuts that any pupil of mathematics can profitably use to improve their engagement with number. Mr Matthews also believes that students of mathematics should enjoy detecting patterns in number sequences. In the fourth part of the book he presents a sample of his own discoveries in this area. He also presents classroom exercises that the pupils can attempt.

Belief versus Knowledge

For centuries, the world has been told a one-sided story, and now, when truth is exactly being told, it seems so unreal. Only a person( or group of privileged people), who know nothing more than was taught to them in the gas chamber institutions in the west would allow stuff like this to flow from that opening on their face;

"So a people who have yet to establish a prosperous, first world society on their own, are the true founders of mathematics? Sorry, not buying it."

So, who are these people who have yet to establish a prosperous first world society? Does this nonthinking person not realize that for thousands of years before anything called Europe existed (yes this includes Greece and Rome), there were a group of people who built the greatest civilization the world has ever seen. I can go on, however, I will not because I let facts speak for itself, spoken words from those who benefit from rape, murder, mayhem, and theft, has no credibility whatsoever, and those who don't like, oh well.
