This book deals with the functions of Quality Management in SAP R/3 in the core processes of logistics: Purchasing, Production, Sales and Distribution, and Service. As the Quality Management module is embedded in the individual processes, not only the components themselves but also the interfaces and contact points to other components are explained. Building on the quality-relevant master data of the material and the basic data of the Quality Management module, we describe the processes of inspection planning, inspection lot creation and inspection lot completion. Furthermore, the quality notification, test equipment management and many other topics of significance are discussed in detail. The various functions are clearly described, illustrated with examples, scenarios and screenshots. The basis of our descriptions and source of the screenshots is the R/3 Release 4.5B, whereby the preceding versions 3.1 and 4.0 are taken into account in the discussion. Most of the examples were created using the IDES training system from SAP, Release 4.5B. The book is directed at all readers interested in Quality Management with SAP R/3, whether you are already working with R/3 or planning to switch to R/3. Loaded with excellent information

Just having done a QM implementation without consultants, I know how much detail there is to wade through. This book would have been invaluable during that time, and has since allowed me to make several enhancements to my implementation. it touches on nearly every aspect of the QM module, and gets fairly in depth in many areas. The process maps from SAP to the ISO/QS standards alone were worth the price of the book. if you are thinking about sap qm, don't do it without this book.

It has a pretty good coverage on the principal issues of QM. Worthy to pay. It clears up many doubts, good at results and defect recording, usage decision and inspection procedures. Illustrates you the QM general logic.

Lacks in quality certificates. Take it under your arm if you go into QM field.

In the Third Edition, Richard Moore and Paul Wheeler join Tom Rossing in updating The Science of Sound to include a wide range of important technological developments in the field of acoustics. New exercises and review questions have been added to the end of each chapter to help readers study the material.

About the Author

Thomas D. Rossing completed his B.A. at Luther College in 1950, his M.S. and Ph.D. at Iowa State University in 1954. His dissertation was in the field of molecular physics. After graduating, he went into industrial research, and from there, he went to teaching. Currently, he is a professor at Northern Illinois University.

Professor Rossing has published more than 200 papers and ten books. He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has held about a dozen research positions other than at his home institution—in national laboratories, in research universities, and in several other countries. The Acoustical Society of America awarded him the Silver Medal in Musical Acoustics.

Toned down math, but still pure sound

I have taught a course entitled "Acoustics for Musicians and Recording Engineers" to Engineering, Music, and Film majors using Rossing's THE SCIENCE OF SOUND. He has toned down the equations enough that the students aren't groaning, yet he's remained true to the interdisciplinary nature of acoustics as a pursuit of physics, psychology, math, and engineering. The structure of the book provides a wonderful outline for the course and it has been an invaluable resource for both me and the students who have wished to continue with their study of acoustics.

Lots of Problems

This book should have been a classic introduction to musical acoustics. Instead, it tries to hard, is convoluted, often in error, and confuses musicians.
When I taught from this book, I and the class found errors in equations, references to equations, and calculations. When undergraduates are struggling to learn, this is a very bad context.
The book is so concerned with a level of comprehensiveness, that measured clarity is left out. At the same time, for the expert, it is too little. Therefore, it appeals to neither the introductory level nor the more advanced level.
I gave up using this book.

A good elementary textbook

I have used this book as the primary textbook for an introductory course in the physics of music. It is at a somewhat higher level than some of its competitors (e.g. "The Acoustical Foundations of Music" by Backus) but still suitable for non-science majors with weak math backgrounds. It is the most thorough and informative book I have seen at this level. However, the students complained that it was somewhat dull. Also, the section on electronic reproduction of music is out of date--relatively little on CD's etc., and nothing on mp3 and related technologies. Still, I plan to use it again.

I used Housecroft and Shriver/Atkins for undergrad Inorganic. They served as much needed compliments for eachother. Of the two, Shriver was stronger, but I'm not sure it would have been an ideal stand-alone text. I would also recommend Metal-Ligand Bonding by Janes and Moore. This combination was my Inorganic Chem elixir. Hope this helps.

As good and bad as the others around

This book is as good as the other, less expensive books on the subject. However, they all seem to have the same flaw: lack of information on how to fall. This book asserts that there are no such techniques. Wrong. A few weeks ago, I tripped on something and started to fall forwards. Fifty years ago I took a class in judo and learned how to fall. I am amazed that I instintively went into a forward judo roll, i.e., tucked my chin in, landed lightly on the top of my back and wound up standing straight up again. Perhaps I was just lucky, since I am not in good condition. But there clearly are ways to fall without hurting one's self. The author refers to specialists of some sort that can teach one
some techniques, but does not say who these people are.

If you are fit enough, learn some judo. Forget tai chi, as so many recommend. Why aren't there gentle judo classes for seniors?
